Members ColeM. Posted September 7, 2009 Members Posted September 7, 2009 Of course, I am in Fort Smith, AR visiting family. Let me know what is going on. I have a feeling it is going to be wild down there today with all the gear fisherman!
Members Poke 'Em Posted September 8, 2009 Members Posted September 8, 2009 I was down there for a little while in the middle of the day. Fishing was tough. Had one gar on for a while before I lost him. That was it. Nobody else was having much luck either. I did see one guy dragging two paddlefish around on a stringer. Pretty sure they were already dead. When I told him that you couldn't keep them out of there, he just shrugged and walked off. I saw him later and he didn't have any fish with him. Don't know whether he dumped them back in the river, dead, or stashed them in the brush, or what... Unfortunately, I didn't have my phone with me or I'd have called the game warden.

Evolution Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 ouch, I feel your pain. I have never caught anything decent there, yet I always go back there for more because I know that there has to be a "big" fish in there with my name on it. Have you ever tried the other bigger lakes around that area (Oogalah, Skiatook)? Usually a hit/miss but I have don't well a few times at these places.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Seems like late winter to spring is the best time to be at Zink. I did really well down there a few times in March and April. No stripers but lots of sand bass with the occasional drum. I think they've all went downstream since the water is so warm...who knows though. But honestly...next spring, unless I'm just pressed for time...I'll be spending my time down on the lower illinois for stripers. Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
