ozark trout fisher Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I was just curious, does anyone fish for white bass on the Mighty Mo? I've heard it holds some, might be fun to try sometime. If so, what kinda bait do you use?
Bman Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I've found White's down from George Winter Park in high water events on the Meramac River. But that's a river that flows to the Mississippi. Caught 'em on Wiggle Warts. The only good line is a tight line

One time at Howell Island conservation area (fishing a Missouri River backwater), I really tore up the whites on a rattle trap. I've never found them again since though. Thanks for the reply.
rangerman Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 The area around the warm water discharge of Labadie powerplant is really good in the late fall and winter. You'll catch some good whites there along with hybrids anywhere from 4-9 pounds. Usually the colder the weather the better. Catch them on big whites twister tails and large white rooster tails. Don't know about summer though.

rangerman Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 All you have to do is have enough of a boat to get across the river. Bank it downstream from the outlet and walk the bank up. It is by far the best way to fish it. Believe me.

I catch white bass and the occasional hybrid around the tips of wing dams between Hartsburg and Glasgow in October and early November. Not a lot, but enough to make it fun to toss a Torpedo late in an October evening when the water is halfway clear.

White bass are a lot of fun, but I don't get to fish for them often, with the exception of some I catch bass fishing on the lower Meramec. They're hard fighters.

I'm near the Eureka exit on 44 so is the closest ramp for me going to be around the bridge somewhere near Washington? Looks like my River Pro will be visiting the mighty Mo. Yeah, theres a boat ramp in Washington, down in the Riverfront park, about a mile from the bridge. I've lived right here, all these years, and only fished the river once. I gotta change that. And all the times I've driven by the Labadie power plant without even knowing.....
