Bman Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I'd be spending your money so here's a suggestion for what it's worth. Would you consider two categories? The big fish would probably be a Brown, so how about a biggest Rainbow and biggest Brown? Just an idea, IMHO. The only good line is a tight line

zander Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 well moving right along I think it is a great idea, especially since a lot of us were sure the next world record brown would be caught out of Taney. That record should belong to the Ozarks.
hoglaw Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Not sure why you're catching flak over this Michael. Neat idea and awfully generous of you.
Bman Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Not sure why you're catching flak over this Michael. Neat idea and awfully generous of you. I very strongly agree. I have never taken the opportunity to stop by your shop, mainly because I’m hammer down on my way to Taney from High Ridge. I do plan to stop by soon, on upcoming vacation. The only good line is a tight line
troutgnat Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Just a word to fishhand! Hey, if you truly are a die-hard flyfisherman of the "one who only catches trout on the "dry-fly"" analogy as you come off to be then that's great. Kudos to you. However, don't be bad-mouthing others on here, especially someone who runs a very legitimate business. We should not judge others by "how" we catch fish provided it is within legal and ethical means. But I would boast a die-hard "fisherman" as one who has enabled him/herself to catch fish by all means.! A skilled fisherman to me would have an arsenal of techniques to aid in his fish catchability. So, before this turns into one of those "bashing" threads. Let me just say: To each his own. There are many techniques to catch fish by and no technique is any more right or proper than the other despite the "A River Runs Through It" McClane law. And a big KUDOS to the fisherman or fisherwoman who is well versed in all of them. You offended me Fishhand and my friend. I am an advid flyfisherman and have put to hand many a trout and other species by means of the fly. Oh and I know what your thinking......Yes, when I say advid, I am an ethical flyfisherman and can properly cast a flyrod, oh, and tie a #22 zebra midge on a Teimco hook. Catch my drift??? I am also proud to say I can and do catch trout by all means and am well versed in my trout arsenal. And I should mention that I am not the only one who can do this! So in the end-all please take your offensive comments elsewhere and shame on you for not stepping foot into Backcountry Outfitters! Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"
Terry Beeson Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 I would add my signature to the above post by troutgnat... Here here!!! Someone doesn't like the rules... Wait... there ARE no rules... FishinCricket Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 I would wager that this thread/idea (even with the hateful comment I saw) will bring more business than it will turn away. I know it will definitely be my next stop when I get to Springfield. I prolly won't make it down to participate, but your involvement in this forum has already earned my business. (also, most people tend to tale hateful anonymous comments for what they are truly worth, which is next to nothing) cricket.c21.com
Members bigdub Posted September 12, 2009 Members Posted September 12, 2009 Backcountry is an excellent establishment and the people are more than willing to do anything to help you become a better angler!! Fishhand...terrible and classless remarks!! A fool with a plan is always better than a genius with NO PLAN!!!!
Fishhand Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 I honestly don't care how a person cathces a fish...bait, plug or fly. BCO is a FLY shop and IMO a fly shop has a responsibility to be a steward of our resources. Not an exploiter. IMO, this tournament is just an another attempt to exploit Taney. Probably won't happen, but, I can see guys down in the chutes snagging fish just for the chance at winning a reel. Take it however you will.
