Fishrman Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Put in at Campbell Point, fished to small island past point 16. Had 5 keepers, 3 smj, 1 kentucky, 1 black (biggest of the day). Best guess was they would weigh around 14-15 lbs. 2 of my smj were over 17.5 inches. Caught fish on spoon, fb jig, and spinnerbait. Caught another 15-20 shorts. Fished from 7:00 to 3:30. Got bit well when the wind would blow a little bit. Good luck when you get to go.
troutgnat Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Fshrman, Wind was key for me yesterday as well. I was dragging points but got bit much better when the wind was on it. I threw a spinnerbait for a bit with no luck but just didn't the conditions for the bite where I was at, so I thought anyway. May I ask what the conditions and structure you were throwing your spinnerbait on? I was throwing the KVD premium in shad color in tandem gold colorado with large nickle willow leaf. Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"
Fishrman Posted September 21, 2009 Author Posted September 21, 2009 I throw a half ounce War Eagle almost exclusively anymore. Much easier to cast than 3/8 oz. I threw the Screamin Eagle and the larger profile one as well. Caught many fish out of the top of cedars and many around bushes that had some wind on them. I think if I would have had more wind, the cedar bite would have been better than what it was. Hope that helps.
smallmouthjoe Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I was fishing on Aunts creek yesterday and could nothing going on a spinnerbait. The guy i was fishing caught one nice keeper on a spinnerbait and caught all the rest of his fish on a buzzbait. He didn't catch numbers but he was catching quality. First time I've ever seen the buzzbait be effective on Table Rock.
Fishrman Posted September 21, 2009 Author Posted September 21, 2009 I was pretty fortunate yesterday. Not many boats out and fished different areas with the SB. This is something I've been doing for the past several years. A guy showed me a few years back and the pattern appears in Sep. sometime and last a couple of weeks and then goes away. It does however come back again in late October. Timing and weather affect how early or late in Sep. it occurs. Buzz bite can be good, have had several good night trips with it starting this time of year.
