Members Oldschoolcane Posted October 12, 2009 Members Posted October 12, 2009 Has Bennett been affected by the recent monsoons over 10/9? Just curious? Tim
Paola Cat Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 It was blown out but is coming back down. It's still pretty high and moving fast. PC Cheers. PC
NoLuck Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 I think it was nearly 5 ft deep, but I can't tell for sure because of the gauge reading on the USGS website. Either way its been flushed out pretty good. Maybe the winter season will not have all those dead fish and skins laying around in the shallow water all winter now. If the water is pretty dingy its time to tie up some Y2K's.
Members kux99 Posted October 14, 2009 Members Posted October 14, 2009 I was out there for the derby over the weekend. Only 24 tags got turned in out of 100. I have never been to one prior to the weekend. Is that pretty normal, or are the tags usually turned in at a greater number? I am sure the discolored and high water did not help the event. If you were there over the weekend, was the crowd there about the normal size on derby weekend? The water was up over the weekend. Both bridges were closed off when we got there. The river was running greenish color and fast. Even for the high water, the fish did not seem to mind it. They were still biting really good. I caught the majority of my fish on san juans, brown scuds, hares ears, Y2Ks, and a bead head green weenie (in white version). I even caught some on cracklebacks on top of the water. Even with the off colored water, the fish can still see your fly. A lot of the fish I caught over the weekend were very nice in size. I caught several in the 15-19 inch range, including 2 Browns (16 and 18 inches). All fish were released back to the water for another person to catch.
