I was wondering with the closing of the park to all types of fishing if I could still park at Maramec Springs, and wade down to the red ribbon area to fish. I was thinking about going after wild trout, but I figured out we got 3 people going, so we're looking for bigger water. I would just go to Cardiac Hill, but with the high water I'd like to say above Dry Fork.

OTF,

The answer you are looking for is YES. You can park at Maramec Springs and walk down. But remember, I think you still have to pay to park for the day.

I have not been down there yet this year after season, but did multiple times last year in December. Nobody is working the park and you simply drive in. It's all catch and release now in the park. Or if you want to fish the river, you can just follow the spring branch down to the confluence.

Yeah... I was just thinking about heading to the park and walking down to the red ribbon area and fishing. I think instead I'm just gonna go down south of rolla and fish one of the Gasconade drainage streams... Like Mill, Spring, or maybe even the Piney up around Yancy Mill. I'm in the mood now to fish one of those little baby sized creeks (maybe even try to find some beaver pond action), and it turns out I'll be the only one going anyway.

Sounds good. Be sure to post a report. Good luck.

I will most definitely report... I'm thinking of maybe trying to hit a couple different creeks, just kinda follow where the trout take me. :D

OK, so by flies only do they MEAN flies only or artificial only like the trophy area at Taneycomo?

Real men go propless!

It's complicated.... First of all, spinning gear is totally legal. You do not need a fly rod to be legal.

Second, you can basically use any single hooked artificial (without soft plastics) jigs, single hooks spinners, and egg patterns all would be allowed. Basically the only difference from the taney tackle regs is that you cannot use treble hooks during the winter trout park season.
