Members NechesBobcat Posted November 4, 2009 Members Posted November 4, 2009 Hey everyone! I'm new here. Just found out about the site by accident. I've been addicted to Roaring River for about 3 years now. I'm from southeast Texas but have been going to the Table Rock Lake area my whole life. Just closed on a house on roaring river by HWY 86 a few weeks ago. I've already made about 6 trips up there since the spring this year. We're planning on being up there next weekend for C&R. My wife and I will be fishing with the bamboo rods we just completed in October at Bill Oyster's in Blue Ridge, GA. I'm hoping to get some good pictures while we're up. Looks like a great bunch of people on here and I'm looking forward to meeting some new people at RR next weekend. Brian By the way, I go by Neches Bobcat because I live on the Neches River in SE Texas and picked up the bobcat nickmane from trapping all through school.
jjtroutbum Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 Welcome to the sight and please tell about the rod making class. I have seen pictures of his work and its impressive. Members NechesBobcat Posted November 5, 2009 Author Members Posted November 5, 2009 The rod making class was the best vacation we have taken. It's pretty intensive work but never boring. It's worth every penny you have to spend. Bill oyster has an awesome place in an awesome location. He and his wife are some of the nicest people I've ever met. I started out making a 7 1/2' 5 wt and my wife made a 7' 4 wt. Just as I was getting ready to glue my bamboo strips together I broke 8 inches off 2 of my tip strips. I decided to redo the taper and make a 6' 3 wt which was a wonderful choice. It's the finest rod i have ever owned and i definitely plan on making another one. I put a Peerless 1A reel on it. My wife wrapped her eyes on with pink thread and i got her a pink Abel reel. Everyone is more than welcome to check them out next weekend. I took mine by and showed it to Tim. I think he actually approved of it.
