Nortrad Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Water was high, off color. Had a bleak morning from around Parker, only one juvenlie rainbow to show. Skunked at Baptist also. Ran into a guy I met in Sept. who has fished the Current for years. His advice is always welcome as I pulled into Tan Vat. The rig of success was a glo bug, peach w. fire spot above a BH flashback scud, either olive or cream, it didn't seem to matter, and, the key, lotsa split shot above the egg fly. Caught and lost a 16-17" rainbow just above the former deadfall above Tan Vat, the flood washed it over. Wasn't prepared at all for a strike/run/fight and I lost him. I knew this set up was the ticket (Thanks Jack!). Worked up through to the Rock Garden/boulders and it was great action. Ended up catching my third-best brown, just under 16" and chunky. Caught 5 rainbows and 4 browns from 2:30-4:30PM approx. Of course lost 3 of 4 flies to snagging the bottom. Good thing I had them in the box, simple tie. Pictures soon, an excellent afternoon. It should be better today, with clouds and high 60's, river dropping.
Nortrad Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 Here's the pics from Sunday, Nov. 8. The middle brown w. egg in photo was much more colorful than the pic shows. The other two are the chunky 16". He needs to do some crunches, like the the guy who caught him. Not fishing the Current until sometime in Dec. Heading back home to WA for Turkey Day, and fishing the Yakima for a few hours that weekend. Hopefully will hook into some rainbows and/or cutts.
