Asked Santa for the Remington Vantage 1200 air rifle they had at Dick's Sporting Goods over the weekend for $79. Says it shoots .177 at 1200 fps and the reviews were pretty good. I remember reading a thread on OA about one of the members that repairs (or did in another life) and I was just wondering if anyone could remember who it was?? Would like to know how this one compares to the Beeman SS1000 and if they can be repaired if something happens to them. Anyone remember who the expert is?

I believe it was member Crippled Caddis. Anyone know of what has happened to him? He was last on the board 24th January 2009 - 12:14 AM.

Most of those guns are pretty simple to repair, and there are kits out there avaliable to repair if something does come up. it does take quiet some time for them to get in a state where repair is needed, but it can happen. You should be good to go with the remington, i wonder who they are importing it thru, most the firearm manufacturers are importing another dedicated air guns companys gun and calling it theirs.

if it doesnt come with a scope, make sure you get a scope ment for air rifles. they have a very strange recoil that absolutly destroys centerfire scopes. my old break barrel gun was fun, i wouldnt mind getting another, but i would prolley go ruger or gamo if i went with one.

Geof, it does come with a scope. I didnt know Ruger made one, so I searched it and funny thing.......it looks identical to the Remington. Makes me wonder if they are produced by the same manufacturer with different names?

there is a very good chance that they are. the stocks are usually made by the company importing them, given them their own little tweaks. but the barrels, springs/pistons etc are usually only from a couple manufacturers. That being said, most of those guns you really cant go wrong with.
