timsfly Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Tim (Backcountry Outfitters) came down with his wife and young daughter on sunday, everybody was catching fish but I think Tim's daughter outfished a lot of the guys around her, she landed 4 that she hooked and landed by herself and she landed a total of 8 in about and hour and half, she is going to make a great fisher, she has the eye of a seasoned angler. Or maybe it was stink eye, not sure about that one, she was using a san juan worm, and a 6'9" 4wt 5pc Winston Fly rod, perfect rod for the beginning fly fisher. Water is still falling, and the dry fly fishing has been great. I have been catching trout on caddis, blue wing olives, adams, griffiths gnats and cracklebacks for the past few weeks. The water is very clear and the flow has slowed up some, so the sight fishing is getting very good, I've been catching maybe 5 or 6 trout a weekend over 3lbs and a few over 8 in the past few weeks. There are a lot of nice 5-8lb fish left in the water, a few have been killed, but most are doing pretty good, tons of smaller trout in the water, I have been catching anywhere from 30 to 50 trout a day on a mixture of drys, glo-balls, streamers and san juan worms. Good nymphs right now are pheasant tails, hares ears, copper johns brassies, thread jigs, small egg patterns, zebra midges and sow bugs have all been working. The water is clear, so the use of 7X or 6X is recommended. On the spinning rods glo-balls, singe hook roostertails(dk colors) marabou jigs and small single hook spoons(with feathers) are doing well. When spin fishing right now, you should use 2 or 3 lb fishing line. Stay away from fluorescent lines, these will spook the trout right now. Fishing has been great come out and enjoy. And she needs to be tying every chace she gets, she's a natural. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
Members Troutgod1 Posted December 18, 2009 Members Posted December 18, 2009 my dad and I both fished monday and sunday, we did real well. Tim suggested to my dad that he try a san jaun worm and a copper john dropper, we did this and dad caught his second big fish of the season, it was a nice fat 22" rainbow, man was he happy. We caught 23 fish on sunday and only landed 16 on monday, but it was a good two days of fishing.
