Ämp Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 hope you all have a wonderful holiday w/e tradition you observe.. here is a early present.. The following pattern is considered a weapon of mass destruction and should not be kept in plain view of the public hook: start large to get practice mats: antron dubbing , micro fibers , and mottled wing mat. that will be stretched over the back of the scud..anything shiny flat and some what transparent will work for the back. steps.. start mid shank tie in and place your micro fibers middle of the hook to where the small ends come off the back of the fly. you should have enough left in the front to make small legs and antennas. wind back 1/3 of the hook bend and tie in your backing mats..remember to leave some hanging over the front and back. Then start your dubbing , there are 2 good ways to bring this together you can wrap dubbing and then make a rib or make the ribs ,legs , and dubbing come together all at once... (the harder it is to tie the better it looks).. for sake of practice try the second way, wrap a rib of dubbing while holding a few micro fibers back then pull your back over it and start a new rib with dubbing and a few more micro fibers until you are at the eyelet.Make sure to leave a few fibers for antennas and then tie it off.. scud missile sorry my camera stinks..you get the idea though .
Ämp Posted December 26, 2009 Author Posted December 26, 2009 for you bass fisherman ... almost forgot , the craw. Mat: swiss straw, antron dubbing, 2 moose body fibers, pair of stem eyes, and a few hen feathers for claws start at the bend with your antennas(moose hairs)tie in your claws and get all 4 looking right. Tie on your eyes and then just in front of them place your straw with the extra pointing towards the hook point, tie it in and start adding your dubbing behind the eyes.Fold the straw over the eyes/ dubbing and start making the ribbing . Leave extra straw for a tail... if you want to get fancy use a little hackle at the front of the body for legs or maraboo for feelers and mouth parts or even copper wire for your ribs. Get creative , use your own colors , post a pic and let me see how yours turned out. .
