I tied some 32s a few years ago, you could hook fish on them but I only landed a few, you could stand down there across from # 3 in that still water and hook every fish sometimes, but I landed very few, the hooks would pull out very quickly, but it was fun.

Those things can be a real pain. I got into tying really small stuff for a while, but ended up deciding it wasn't worth the hassle. I was missing too many fish. IF you are tying small stuff, try to use the TMC 2488. It's got a wide gap and it's available in a ton of sizes. It still amazes me that a decent fish will move over a foot to take a size 26 fly. Seems like a waste of energy.

Mizzou, thanks for the hook tip. I think I tend to agree with you about whether a fish will expend energy for such a small morsel. I am leaning toward not continuing to tie those tiny bugs just for that reason.

sometimes those small bugs are all that they will take...especially down here on the san juan. some days you have to throw size 28-32 bugs just to get a look. in japan and china, they have competitions to see who can catch the smallest fish....those hooks get down to size 40
