Didnt look like there had been any generation in a few days because the water was extremely clear! I caught 8 in the short time I was there. I was at the gravel parking area and fished at the tree stumps near the bend of the river for about an hour and produced 4. I then moved up above the big rock pool where a lot of the bait fisherman like to hang out and fished the calmer water. I hooked 4 more...but missed at LEAST a dozen. I watched a guy fishing about 50 yrds from me pull in fish after fish. He said he was using a Clouser most of the time. I had most of my takes on a white bead-head woolly. Would have stayed longer...but I discovered the hard way...that my waders had sprung a leak in the foot and crotch area. If my teeth werent chattering and my feet didnt feel completely numb, I probably could have tricked them there fish and caught more! Were you driving a black car? I met wanabeflyer and his son in the gravel parking lot at about 2:30pm yesterday. We fished the other side of the island and caught a few on the Hair and Copper. They had to leave around 4ish and I stayed until about 5:30pm. I switched to the BobWhite and caught them on just about every drift until a red headed kid walked through the run I was fishing. I moved upstream to the tree stumps below the kiddie pool and switched to an Olive micro jig tied with red thread. They hit the jig as soon as it hit the water or within the first 3 feet of the drift. I lost count of the fish that I caught but I'm estimating 30+ within the 3 hours that I fished. I enjoyed fishing with WBF and his son. Fishing with new friends and catching lots of fish equals a great day!! DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
On The Fly 6 Posted January 19, 2010 Author Posted January 19, 2010 I was indeed driving a black car. I thought your face looked familiar DaddyO, I just couldnt place it! Glad to hear that you had a productive day and non leaky waders! In the time I was there, my toes and nether regions became very cold so I decided to call it a day early...other wise I would have fished till sun down. Im hoping to be back out there soon and hopefully the waters still as clear as it was! dgames Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I moved upstream to the tree stumps below the kiddie pool Where is the kiddie pool. Is it by the dropoff at the top end of the island? I was part of the group fishing yesterday afternoon in the pool at the bottom end of the island
OKFlyFisher44 Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 The kiddie pool is the hole where the river splits and goes around the island. Its a man-made hole...there are several large boulders at the head of the run. Its usually a pretty good hole but it gets fished pretty hard though. I wish OWDC would put more holes like that in the stream...it'd really help out the fishery! Phil...only have 2 weeks of duck season left and then it'll be time to wet a line! I'll call ya or send you a message when I'm going...we need to fish again! Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...

My waders didn't leak, but by the time I got out of the water, I was pretty cold. That's the first time that I've fished that my toes got cold. I can only imagine what it felt like in the nether regions!! That will turn a BASS to a TENOR, musically speaking, in a hurry. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.

Yup, it wasn't what I was looking forward to..but it happened.I was in fact a Bass in high school choir, but after that day I felt much like a Soprano . Ill get them fixed and maybe head out this weekend, granted they aren't generating. I wont mind if its cold.
