Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Crappie are still going strong, at least for now. Fish with jigs in 50-60 foot of water over brush piles and/or schools of shad. The fish are on the bottom or just off the bottom about 2-3 cranks. Doesn't look like color matters much, but if you are fishing with a 1/16 oz jig either use a double rig or some split shots. Jig them right under the boat and you can catch fish all day long. Bass are pretty slow still. Slow working jigs and plastics on bluffs and points are the best bet. The jerkbait bite shouldn't be far away. Walleye are fair to good on jigs in 40-50 foot of water. Catching some while crappie fishing. Sorry, no report on the catfish. Don't forget to bring the dry clothes just in case. And starting tomorrow a snow shovel might be needed. Good luck Bob Bennett Stockton Lake Guide Servicehttp://fishstocktonlake.com 417-637-BASS"Our Service is Crappie" ”And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Members Frost1920 Posted January 28, 2010 Members Posted January 28, 2010 I should've headed up the other day instead of chickening out! I just couldn't get past all the rain on the radar and the stiff winds. Thanks for the report though. If we don't have a foot of snow in my way, maybe I can get up this week. All I need now is to learn how to tie up a double crappie rig and work on my depth finder skills. I have an Eagle 480, which I am sure has WAY more capabilities than I do! I don't know what the dern thing is telling me most of the time besides how deep and cold the water is.
Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted January 30, 2010 Author Posted January 30, 2010 I got the 1197c si and don't know what I am seeing half of the time. But it makes life easier finding brush piles. I'm clearing a ramp Sunday afternoon or Monday morning, so give me a call if you are coming up. we can go out fishing for a little bit monday if you are free. Members Frost1920 Posted January 31, 2010 Members Posted January 31, 2010 Yeah that sounds great! By the way, do you ever look around the Table Rock forum? There are a couple threads about the 1197 S.I. and tons of screen shots and discussions about these S.I.'s. I guess the new software updates give you down imaging along with side imaging. Something to check out for sure if you haven't already. Ill try to catch up with you this coming week.
