Members BigNick78 Posted February 1, 2010 Members Posted February 1, 2010 Hello all, Im not planning on heading down on march first. I personally dont like the fishing march first way too many people there for my taste. But who is heading down and what do you love about being there on march first for the first buzzer of the season. Like wise if you don't like going down what reasons do you not like going. Ill Trout Bum Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I'll be there as I have for the last 27 years. I must admit, that opening day is not my ideal fishing situation. The crowds can be horrendous. Sometimes, you never know as with last year when the weather took a turn for the worse. A lot of potential opening dayers chose to stay home or were prevented from getting there by road conditions. For our group, it is more about the fellowship. This is the only time I see some of our guys all year long. We enjoy the company, fixing the meals, fly tying and the occasional stories that always seem to surface about past opening days. I look forward to this every year and would not trade the experience for anything. I guess it's like someone once said. "If I have to explain it to you, you wouldn't understand." For those of you venturing out next month, have a great opener!! Scott
stlfisher Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I avoid opening days. I just don't like the crowds that much. I do agree though that trips with friends whether on opening day or not are something I look foward to each year. If I want to fish in less crowded conditions I usually go in the winter time.

I'm with you there... I've been proudly forgoing the opening day festivities ever since I moved here. I guess I technically can't say I don't like opening day, because I've never been, but I have a feeling I wouldn't. But for enjoy the tradition, that's great, and I hope y'all have a good time. Just not my cup of tea
Members BigNick78 Posted February 3, 2010 Author Members Posted February 3, 2010 Ive been down a few times the first time i was 16 and went down with a bunch of my family. The older generations from my great uncles to my cousins. we had a great time up until we got there at 4am and every decent spot was taken. I'm 26 at the moment and most of the elder generation cant fish or have passed on. I think I'm skipping opening day and heading down in the middle of the month. I really hope y'all catch some fish and have a great time. View my Blog http://www.montaukchronicles.blogspot.com/
