Members Brent Posted February 6, 2010 Members Posted February 6, 2010 On Feb 2 I decided to make a trip to Crane and just explore and fish a bit. I had only been to the creek a couple times before and since my wading boots had blown out on me a week earlier, I was stuck to the bank. I arrived early at the Wire Road access and proceeded upstream from there. I saw a few sow bugs in the water, but not having any I went with a 14 grey scud and hooked a couple very small ones. I changed over to a 16 GRHE BH and kept pushing up stream. I found it very difficult to approach/cast to most of the holes without getting in the water. I finally found the perfect little hole for my situation and crawled up to it on my knees. I found myself behind a big tree I used for cover and flipped my HE upstream. I followed it down using a high stick approach and there it was. I set the hook and saw my first sizable McLoud rainbow role over on the bottom. I pulled the beauty up and I saw colors I have never seen on a rainbow in my life. I guessed the fish to be approx 12-14in and after a short battle he came off. I was happy that I finally hooked up with my first good McCloud and pretty much just explored the rest of the day wishing I had my waders, saw some really nice fish while doing so. I used to fly fish a lot when I was in my teens and for awhile took a break. I'm finally back to fishing and tying and don't see myself straying anytime soon. I'm also new to the site and I have to say there is a lot of good reading in here. I for sure cant wait to get back to Crane and learn some more about those beautiful fish.
