Randall Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I've been searching around for places near Kansas City to hit the hybrids with a fly rod. I fished Blue Springs lake at the Jacomo spillway last year with spinning gear and did okay. Where else besides B.S. and James A. Reed are hybrids stocked and are there any streams they move into to spawn? I've got the gear, I just need some place close that I can throw it. Cute animals taste better.
troutfiend1985 Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I don't know of any other places that match your description. I don't think any of the streams in the KC metro area have hybrids in them, but I would love know if I'm wrong. What type of set up are you throwing for them? I live in Raytown and I've gone for them a couple of times at James A. Reed. I always see them school shad up, and I know that there are a few horses in those ponds. I can't wait for winter to be over, this cabin fever thng sucks. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis
Randall Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 I've got a lot more spinning gear than flyfishing when it comes to hybrids. I generaly throw soft plastics like sassy shad and wildeye minnows at places like Blue Springs and the Truman tailwater. I tied up a bunch of big clousers and I've got a few crease flies and gummy minnows for the flyrod. Haven't had a chance to use them yet though. What I was kind of thinking was that some of the streams that feed the local lakes holding hybrids might see spawn runs. I imagine I'll be going to Reed at some point this spring... might head over to the Kansas side and chase em there too. Warm weather can't come soon enough. Cute animals taste better.
drew03cmc Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Let me know when you come to the Kansas side and we can hook up! Andy
KCRIVERRAT Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 On the Kansas side, Wilson or Milford are great hybrid spots. Fish the humps and read the reports. HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
Randall Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 Let me know when you come to the Kansas side and we can hook up! For sure. I plan on heading to Kansas at least one weekend this spring so I'll give you a little heads up before I go. Cute animals taste better.

Bill B. Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 La Cygne is a lot closer to KC. Walk back to the hot-water discharge waterfall anytime in April and try in the current right below the cable at the crack of dawn.
KCRIVERRAT Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 I forgot all about LaCygne. Bill B. is right... I had a great morning there at the cable a long while back. Only problem was that my arsenal wasn't heavy enough. I'd definitely give LaCygne a shot... HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
Randall Posted March 16, 2010 Author Posted March 16, 2010 I know what I'm doing saturday... weather permitting. Cute animals taste better.
