Ok Im not a smart man... But I went crappie fishing with my 4 year old son at a crappie pond. And we fished for 2 hours and no bite's at all. My guestion, is the lake is warmer than the ponds? I hear that some are catching crappie and some are catching 2 that aint even keepers. Now a pond is a smaller body of water i guess it is a smaller body of water so their for it gets colder. So their for we had no bites. To be honest I just wanted to go fishing really bad !!! and so did my son... Im new to lake fishin, with my buddy, he just got a boat so we are wanting to slay some crappie and walleye. But I have never caught a walleye... Fishin buddy keeps tellin me, you fish for crappie you might catch a walleye? He has caught his like that. Sorry experts of the lake fishin... Im just a pond fisherman. Trying to find out Lake Stockton? I love fishin boys no question asked!!!!

Call the Stockton Lake Guide, his rates are reasonable and he'll show you how to catch those crappie and walleye. What I like about Bob is he will answer my phone calls when I'm going fishin on my own and tell me what they're bitin on and where to look.

Huckfin,

The lake fishing has been wonderful. If you're not use to fishing in the lake but have plans to do so this year and in the coming years I highly suggest you hire a guide. Bob from Stockton Lake Guide Service is great and will put you on fish, more importantly than catching fish with him is learning how. He will take the time to show you how to use a graph, tie knots, talk about rods, jigs, scents etc... The info you get will make you a better fisherman the rest of your life. I've been fishing all my life and every time I go out with a guide a learn something new. Trust me you will learn a ton, have a great time and catch some fish!

If you are going fishing on stockton, concentrate on the creek channels and flats in about 30 foot of water and find the shad. We caught lots of fish today on a trip, everyone had a limit, but that could change pretty quick as the water warms up and the fish start to transition.. I have trips thur fri and sat so I should be on the lake each day. If you get out there and have some questions give me a call, but not always the best reception out there.

As for the temp of the ponds, they will warm up first, but they also cool faster. I would think they are about the same or a little warmer than the lakes right now. The fish always have to eat, just like us. They just slow down in the winter. Fish slow or verticle to have a better chance.
