zipstick Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I'm not nearly the Wart angler as many are. So here goes: 1. Is the newest version of the Warts as good as the old pre-Rapala Warts? Reasons? 2. If you had to use just three colors, what would they be, and in what water clarity or conditions would you elect to use each? 3. What water temperature do you consider the lower end for Warting? When do you put this bait away? Thanks.

Different action and sound due to the change in plastic. 2. Brown craw, natural green craw and phantom green, in that order. 3. I catch fish on a wart from 37 degrees to around 65 degrees. bigredbirdfan Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 EP you are a true asset to this forum. Hope we can fish together some time soon. You want to give me a lesson on jerkbaits sometime?

I think when they want to eat it, they will eat it. ( I should say, I throw the old ones when $ are on the line) Colors: I like phantom Crawfish (clear water), Nat. Red Crawfish, and Hot Tiger or Watermelon in Dirty Water. There are also several "old" colors that have their place. B. Foz
nwaoutdoorsman Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I couldnt say if the older or newer ones are better, never used the newer ones. A few years back when they were going to stop making them I bought a couple hundred. Still have a good supply. As for colors, my all time favorite is green craw V38. Also like watermelon, the older ones are a little different color than the new watermelon. And I have about a dozen that I had painted by fallcreek lures in a green pumpkin craw pattern that I like really well. Other good ones are brown craw, natural green and brown craw, green and brown phantom craw and firetiger in stained water. Its hard to pick just three. As for water temps I agree with the above. 40-65 degrees. Also, if you can find any flat warts they are an awesome bait as well.
focused fishing Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 NWA, Flat warts are great if you can find them, have you ever tried a "rattle tot"???? It's the the old hot - n - tot with rattles, metal bill, dives about 10' - 12' deep on 10# line. I own a couple and find they will hit it when they are just a little to deep to reach with a wart. If you find one give it a try. I wish I had several more flat warts, but like you say, they are hard to find. Thanks for the tip!
gabe Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Do you guys normally change out the hooks? I bought a few yesterday and changed them out.
