CaptainT16 Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Well, looks like my Father and I are going to escape Kansas for a weekend and head down that way. Not looking to be a great weekend weather wise, but as of right now we are planning on braving it. Hopefully the Corps will cooperate and not let much water out. Doesn't look like they probably will with the lake being at the level it is now. Anyone been fishing there recently or is anyone planning on being out Sat or Sunday? My father has never fished here before, so he's in for a big treat. I've only been fishing down there for 3-4 years now, but I absolutely love it. I drive a Tan F-150 so stop by and say hello. BFTMASTER Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Just pack your spinning gear in case they release. We have been doing really well this year at all areas. Microjigs, small rapalas and small spoons. Should'nt be hard to have some fun no matter what the water level or weather.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 If they do generate, you should find fishable and wade-able water near the access at the 2nd parking lot below the dam. Wade across the stream to the island and then walk up to the top of the island. The water is a little deep and fast, just add some split shot and you'll get the fly down to the fish. Or like BFT said, get the spinning gear out. I was able to fish that area even when they were generating at over 3000cfs and the wading was quite easy due to how shallow it is around that island. Fishing was a little tough but we caught fish though!! Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
CaptainT16 Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 Well, unfortunately my father and I weren't able to make it down there this past weekend due to the weather. It truly amazes me one day it can be 70+ and the next in the 30's with heavy snow. So, not sure when we will be able to head down that way as I am expecting baby number two pretty much anytime. Has anyone been out this week at all? DaddyO Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I went out last Friday. Was there for a couple of hours. Lots of people there. Fishing was slow. I caught 12 in the 3 1/2 hours that I fished. I just checked the river levels. I wish that I was out there now. It looks perfect. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.

Has anyone been out this week at all? I went down Tue the 23rd. Water was up and really murky. Visibility 1 inch maybe. Spent an hour at a favorite spot and got nothin, not a hit, saw no rises at all. So headed upstream to a pool with 7 other people. Caught 40 or 50 fish standing in one spot. A memorable day, saw a Mink for the 1st time in my life. I can't even hazard a guess as to the absense of fish downstream. Packrod Have tackle will travel
