Members brownie ben Posted May 24, 2006 Members Posted May 24, 2006 A buddy and I went fishing near Galena last Saturday evening. Water was still up a little and flowing fast but all the algae and mcuk has been long washed out. Water quality seemed really good as a result. Caught a couple of decent (12 - 14") smallies and several nice rock bass on a pumpkin colored tube. Not much luck on any top water baits.
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I fished it last Friday, farther upriver, and it was so-so for us with most coming on Green, whether it was tubes or grubs. We spent a lot of time on Top, but it didn't produce any results. I agree the river does look good. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

No topwater action to speak of, but did very well with 4" double tail grubs in pumpkin and watermelon colors. Using the lightest weight the current would allow also helped I think. Caught some really nice smallies and a few largemouths and goggle eye. The fish were active that's for sure.
