ryan Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 I was wondering if anyone has any helpful hints about catching carp on a fly rod. I have caught a few fishing dry flies for bluegill and have caught a couple on w-buggers fishing for bass but I would really like to target them, any tips would be appreciated.
Members br549 Posted May 26, 2006 Members Posted May 26, 2006 I have caught them before when I was stripping a small (14-16) soft hackle with a white collar. It tends to look a lot like the cottonwood seeds that blow around. I haven't gone after them but I think that would be fun. I caught one that way at T-como and thought I had a big brown on.
Members john montana Posted June 5, 2006 Members Posted June 5, 2006 the key to carp on a fly is to find shallow flats where they feed, and sight fish to them. carp will take most generic nymph/bugger patterns, if you present it right to them. they don't readily chase flies (though they will occasionally) and you are better off getting the fly within a foot of the feeding fish's mouth. it is an addictive way to fish! http://carponthefly.blogspot.com/
