smallmouthjoe Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 I have never caught or heard of anyone catching catfish on The Finley. However, it seems to me that someone over the years may have thrown them into the park, I think I vaguely remember someone talking about catching catfish at the park but I can't be sure. As far as catching bass, you can catch them on all the regular stream bass baits. Cranks, tubes, jigs, soft plastics, jerkbaits, etc..... I hope this helps.
RSBreth Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 YES, SOMETIMES PEOPLE CATCH CATFISH IN THE PARK AND IN THE RIVER, UM.. er, I mean yeah, sometimes you can catch Channel cats, but they don't just sit in one spot all year waiting for us to come along. I would try the deepest water with current downstream of a dam durring warmer water temperatures. There are three on the Finley, so take your pick.
Members bcfish Posted April 7, 2010 Members Posted April 7, 2010 i have caught some cats on the finley mostly on chicken liver on the bottom in deeper pools.
Members ltomczyk Posted April 7, 2010 Members Posted April 7, 2010 Last summer, my son and I watched a guy check a trot line that had a few cats on it. This was just a few hundred yards up from the park boat ramp.
Greg Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I have not fished the finley in several years. But used to fish it often. I used to have a lot of fun by wading downstream fishing for bass with a rapala and then when fishing back upstream switching to a dough type bait (BJ). The bass fishing was hit and miss but I used to catch some cats every trip. Some up to 6 or 7 lbs. I would even occasionally catch one on the rapala. I would assume there are still a lot of channel cats in the river. Members Finescalejunkie Posted June 25, 2010 Members Posted June 25, 2010 I have caught them down from where I live before. Chicken livers work great. Deep pools are best spots.
