From my understanding it is just downriver of Galena by about a mile. I'm headed there next weekend for a canoe trip out of James River Outfitters. I'm renting a Cabin from them that is located within a 1/4 mile of the boat ramp at blunk hole. I have directions somewhere, but cant find them right now but i believe you just head into Galena and look for Blunk road and turn south onto it and foll down to that area. You could look up the folks at James River Outfitters and give them a call, actually the number is 417-357-6447, or 417-830-1344 for their cell #. They can tell you how to get there as they live right next to blunk hole. Give me a report back and let me know how you do as I'm itching to make it down next weekend and catch some whites and spoonbill myself!

From Springfield head south on 160 past Nixa and Spokane to 176 West. There is a sign there saying Galena 9miles, also a brown conservation Kerr Access sign. As you come into Galena just over the James River turn South on 248 South. Just before you get to the square 248 turns back to the west, its also W. 3rd St. in town. Not sure of exactly how far Blunk road is from that point. Maybe a mile or so up on your left. There is just a standard street sign. Once on Blunk Rd. just follow it to the river.

I don't have a boat so I typically follow Blunk Rd to Sandstone Rd. (James River Canoe is at Sandstone Rd.) then follow Sandstone til it ends at a parking area. There you can go over the fence, owner put a stair case in to get over fence, and follow the trail down to the river.

Hope this helps

would Kerr be better then? to avoid crowds?

the comment of nobody fishes there anymore and it's too crowded doesn't make sense

Blunk does get crowded, but it is still a good place to fish for whites ans spoonbill.

There's a place for all god's creatures...................right next to the fries and tartar sauce.

GO TO BLUNKS FIRST. IT DOES GET CROWDED SOMETIMES BUT KERR IS WAY FURTHER UP RIVER THAN I WOULD WANT TO BE RIGHT NOW, BUT WHO KNOWS. GOOD REPORTS FROM BLUNKS AND YOU CAN WALK THE BANK UPSTREAM TO SOME GOOD SPOTS FOR QUITE A WAYS. JUST MY 2 CENTS. GOOD LUCK. DAVE

I was just re-reading this old thread. I had gone down to Blunks today and scoped it out. Couple questions came to mind.......

Where is Taylor Shoals?

Has anyone had experience putting in a kayak at Blunks? Wondering how it would do and if the current too swift to paddle up to Y-Bridge and then float back down?

Also curious about McCord's Bend. I see it on the map not being too far from Blunks. Is there a put-in at McCords?
