Members jnorman Posted April 23, 2010 Members Posted April 23, 2010 I was looking at the projected loading schedule for Truman and it looks like Monday they are going to start running water again. Hopefully this will be the case as I am planning a trip down on Monday. It would be nice to get into some hybrids. The last couple times I have been down, it has been pretty tough with no water running. The best time to fish is when it's raining . . . and when it's not!
Members wiggle wart Posted April 23, 2010 Members Posted April 23, 2010 Good luck! I'm going Tuesday with my boat. Haven't been able to go since Monday, 2 weeks ago. Caught a couple Hybrids and lost a couple. What a great fishery! Never know what you're going to catch. Tight lines!
Members Wahoo61 Posted April 26, 2010 Members Posted April 26, 2010 I had two good days two weeks ago on a Monday and a Thursday. Caught over 30 each day, hybrids ran in the 3-5 lb class with one 9lb and then the Thursday was about half whites and hybrids, with the largest about 7-8 lbs. Then they shut the water off and it has been dead. Some friends of mine fished last Monday, and nothing was happening. With the cold front I think it will take a few days for them to turn back on. They were starting to hit on top, but I did not see any caught on top water baits. Just my two cents. Wiggle wart, sounds like we fished the same day (two weeks ago Monday). Which side were you on? We fished the gate side from about 3-6:30.

We fished the gate side from about 3-6:30. I fished from my boat just below the cable by the little island and caught some crappie, a few whites, and one hybrid on chartreuse swimming minnow. Then drifted the bank on the east side towards the bridge when the water started running and caught one one hybrid about 6 lbs. on the swimming minnow and lost 2 on my fly rod with a clouser minnow. Tried to get them in quick and that don't always work with Hybrids. Lol! I have done quite well from the rocks on shore during previous years, but I want to fly fish for hybrids and doing so from the bank around a bunch of people isn't too safe if you know what I mean.
shaker Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I think thats a great idea might clear some of those stinky catfish guys out of there especially when they see me whippin' a fly rod around.

There's room for everybody and I don't refer to them as "Stinky catfish guys." But, on the other hand, below the dam is no place for a fly rod during the heat of the Spring fishing action when there are lots of people around.
Members jnorman Posted April 27, 2010 Author Members Posted April 27, 2010 I was down yesterday. They were running ~15000, but the bite was really slow. I only caught a couple whites and a monster catfish on a sassy shad. The shad were jumping like crazy but I think your right that it will take a couple days for the hybrids to really get going. The best time to fish is when it's raining . . . and when it's not!
Members sportshop Posted May 4, 2010 Members Posted May 4, 2010 why oh why, can anyone tell me why they run the daylights out of the water during the week and shut it down on the weekends? it kinda makes me think its a conspiracy, not really just apears that way. running 33000 today ran 32000 up till saturday then shut down to 15000 sat morning. humm.
rangerz21 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 i would sat the big reason is all of the buisiness in st louis shuts down and they dont need the electricity. the reason they generate to is they get the most money for electricity between 709 and 706. plus they dont want all the current with the weekenders small child falls of the dock on the main river they are gone jmho. i wish they ran it all weekend to up on the lake. makes the green fish bite better.
Bill B. Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Right. They generate during periods of peak demand, to supplement other power sources. Weekdays produce peak demand. It works the same way at Thomas Hill and Montrose. Catch your fish on weekdays during the winter. On weekends, shovel the walk.
