Can't seem to find anything stating that it is illegal to fire a non-concealable weapon within the city of Ozark. I have a bunch of turkeys that I can hunt if it is not illegal to do so. Can anyone send me a link that I can print or see that shows whether this is legal or illegal? It's actually for my son's first bird....his sister got one opening morning of youth and I thought I'd try to get him one so he wouldn't feel let down. Refuse to hunt public property......have private but it is off limits due to the owner having company in this weekend to hunt. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone,

Chris

I have yet to find any city that allows the discharge of a weapon within the city limits, no matter how rural it seems to be. I can't help with a link, but a phone call to the city Police Dept. would be the easiest way to get an answer. That is if it is actually within the city limits. Otherwise the Sheriff Dept. would be the next call to make.

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

That was my first train of thought as well....called the PD, they passed it off to the Sheriff's dept(of course they closed at 5 so it rolled over to the 911 dispatch)....guess I could have considered it to be an emergency! LOL

Just seems like there is something I read/heard when I first moved here that showed Springfield and a few other cities as the only ones that did not allow some form of firearm discharge during hunting seasons....which may be managed hunts now(just not sure). Thing is, the property is seriously one lot away from the city limits from my understanding but the owner is a stickler for following the rules and well, he's right....so.....guess I get to make a call in the morning to the Sheriff's dept or City hall to find out. Only city ordinances I can find are regarding concealable weapons and Turkey Shoots, not hunting within the city. So, on another note....what the deal with the two deer blinds on 65 just South of the Finley...they certainly aren't archery blinds!

I have seen those for years and often wondered myself.

For the record, those are not considered in the city limits based off of the map I found. However Hwy 65 is through that area. Amazing how you can't get a clear answer on this. Can't get in touch with the game wardens(left messages with both that are for the county). The PD can't answer the question(you'd think they would know since they would be the one's responding to the call first), and the Sheriff's department is closed for the weekend. Guess it's free rain on Christian county, the Sheriff's aren't there! LOL Blows my mind.....Sheriff's department back home never closed! City Hall is of course closed so no answers there either. 10 to 1 odds I get conflicting answers from the MDC and the City....have had these things happen several times over the past few years.....guess I just try to find the loopholes and such to make sure I have good land to hunt/fish! Again though, if anyone know's an officer in Ozark, give them a call for me.....my son would appreciate it, and I'd appreciate not having to put him in danger by taking him to public land during turkey season.

I guess one way to find out would be to run out to that spot and blast off a couple of rounds into the ground and run like hell to a spot where you can tell if the cops show up to check it out. You didn't, by chance, give them your name when you were asking questions did you?

Far more people are shot and/or killed on private land than public in Missouri. I turkey hunt public land Missouri and rarely see anyone.

Considering I was shot in the Mark Twain last spring, my vehicle was peppered from a dove field(46 miles on the truck and bright red), been walked up on more times than I can count, I like my private ground. Just can't hunt it this weekend with my son bc of the landowners friends being in. no big deal. Went out, had to go public, found 3 groups of birds, roosted 2 of them, it's game on in the AM!

sometimes its easier to just go ahead and hunt than ask permission.. I would just use common sense and watch the area behind the target to make sure its clear.

Supposedly illegal. Also illegal to shoot your bow though if you follow their statutes that I can find. No big deal. Decided to hunt public(which I've mentioned I can't stand) in the rain last Sunday morning after roosting some birds Saturday evening. Got my kids in the woods early in the blind and waited for flydown....nothing....9:00 kids are ready to leave the plot we were on, and I hit the crow call one last time to hear a gobble behind us. Hit it again, this time he was facing when he fired back....150 yards. Told the little man to get ready, we were sneaking up to that clearing and going to ground hunt it. Snuck up on the bird, got a decoy out, got him all set up and hit my call.....gobble.....SWEET! After that, nothing.....figured after 40 minutes of sitting there that he had to of been henned up and moved on to the South, told my little man to stand up real slow and peak through the dead cedars and see if it was in the clearing...."Nope, not there"----FYI---don't trust a 6 year old! LOL I stood up, walked to the pile of cedars and peak through to see the bird facing left and not seeing us. Told the little man to come back and sit down right here....lined the gun up through a hole in the cedars, and was working on getting him sat down when he tripped.....bird and 25 yards and he tripped in his excitement and the bird heard the noise....never saw us, but heard us.....game over! All in all though, for his first trip out turkey hunting, he did pretty dang good. Boy was he shaking when that bird gobbled! LOL....private land this weekend.....thankfully! Figure I'll take him out there and put him on one ground hunting since he did better there than in the blind waiting. He seemed to like the stalking/sneaking part of it.....goofy little man! Still a good time though....however did see one other hunter, but the blaze orange on the back side of the blind detered him.....Ready for the weekend to hurry up and get here! Thanks to you guys that gave some advice on the subject.
