Njardar Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I would like to start making my own leaders and have what may be a basic question (at least I hope it is). For diameters greater than a 0X tippet what material should I use? Monofilament comes in sizes such as .020" for the butt through 0.014" for the midsection. Is there anything special that separates tippet material from monofilament and is it OK to use a quality monofilament in a leader, or do I need to buy a leader kit? Thanks in advance! - Charlie
Brian K. Shaffer Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I suggest you only buy the leader kit if you are 100% you are going to tie up plenty of leaders for yourself and others... because I see them all the time on the eBay missing the core 3x thru 7x trout fishing sizes and the other larger diameter spools are pretty much untouched. You can save some money by looking up formulas that might require only 4 or 5 varying degrees on break strength... i.e. George Harvey leader, and others. Most of all - have fun! Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
