Daveinozark Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I'm going out to Mcdaniels Sun morning to try my hand at crappie fishing. Never tried for them before, all i know if from what I've read. Are lures like roadrunners more effective than jigs? I figure after the warm rain they should be shallow? anyone got advice
Members BigMinnow Posted April 29, 2010 Members Posted April 29, 2010 I don't think they will be shallow. If you try the shallows and all you get are dinks move to the bridge in 10+fow and fish minnows a foot or two off of the bottom. If you are not the minnow type use a jig(might need a brighter color since the water will be merky such as yellow, chatrouse, brigh pink tail with white body always does well for me). I caught a lot of fish in McDaniels last weekend during the rain keep a few biger ones for dinner. Hope that helps, good luck.

Daveinozark Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 the small ones are 9+ inches caught last weekend on McDaniels yeah i saw your previous posts, prompting the trip on Sun. I've got white and yellow roadrunners, small 1 inch single tail grubs of the same colors on jig hooks. I wasn't planning on getting any minnows. Will these work? Do they want a slow swimming lure or jigged off the bottom?
Members BigMinnow Posted April 30, 2010 Members Posted April 30, 2010 I went out this morning for about 5hrs threw the whole tackle box at them and not a bite. I didn't try minnows since the bait shop wasn't open when I went. I don;t know what works and what doesn't I try a little bit of everything intill I get a bite then I just try to repeat it, if it stops working change it up. I was slow swimming last weekend with some tube jigs and caught a bunch of little ones all of the big ones were from minnows.

Predator1 Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 where do you buy your minnows? How much are they. I live in Springfield and wood like to pick some up early before i head to Stockton Sunday. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Members BigMinnow Posted May 1, 2010 Members Posted May 1, 2010 I get them at Trantham's Bait on west Chestnut if I am getting a dozen or two, if I know I am going to do lots of fishing around LOZ I get them from a buddy up there that orders them online for $0.59 a dozen, but I think thet go for around $1.50-$2.00 localy.
