Stump bumper Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 I fished backseat Sunday and caught a lot of short fish, mostly smallmouth on a manunum finesse worm, and a few wake bait fish. I had some big fish located but the boater didn't have faith in my spots so he drove right past them, oh well his entry fee i was just there. But from the guys with bags over 12lbs I found people who were still fishing bedding fish, and some jumping from brush pile to brush pile. Anyone have any insight on what was happening this past weekend and what the big ones were hitting?
J-Doc Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Odd... I would have thought the spawn was over and done even with the crazy weather we've had. The water temps have been in the 60s for weeks regardless of cold fronts and water temp variations. I believe the water temps is up to the upper 60s now isn't it? I haven't been out in a few weeks so I'm way behind on what's currently working or where the fish are. What part of the lake did you see people fishing beds? Lower lake? Like the Cliffty area and lower? I would think the spawn is done up river from Montne and upward. I hope to get on the water this weekend. Sounds like the lake has had everything but the kitchen sink thrown at it since about March. Even without the FLW tournament this year, this lake has been pounded with local traffic and it's not even getting started with most of the summer traffic yet. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!

I only saw them at the wiegh in, but did see some bank cruisers around point 9.
Members Kenny Hulse Posted May 17, 2010 Members Posted May 17, 2010 I fished toward the dam Sat. and caught many short fish and did squeak 5 keepers, but they were nothing to speak of. I threw everything at them. Couldn't get a strike on topwater, spook or wake bait. Caught some jig, texas rig worm, and shakey head. I did catch a nice walleye on a crankbait though. The tourny I was in took 17lb to win, I think 14lb was next, a few 13lb, and several 12lb bags. They didn't mention on how they were caught though. I believe I'm going to try the war eagle or white this weekend and see out it is.
Members skeeterp Posted May 17, 2010 Members Posted May 17, 2010 Also fished a club tourney on Saturday. We only weighed 8lbs. Caught all of ours on tw spook, chug bug, and most on bubble gum fluke. We did see some on beds also, but nothing big enough to work. We fished rocky branch, rambo area.
jeb Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 I saw a bunch of NICE bass crusing in 1-3' of water late last week in the mid-lake area. There were a bunch of HUGE carp in there, too, but many really nice LM, too. I caught one 3+ LM in a foot of water dragging a short leader C-rig through it. So some are still spawning.
