jeb Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Wife wanted to go boating yesterday, so we headed out around 4pm to see if we could find any Sunny's. We launched out of PC, which was busy, of course. When we came in at 8pm, they had a sobriety check point at the top of the hill, just before you get to Hwy 12. Sheriff's everywhere! They had several assumed inebriates doing the whole 9 yards in a parking lot close by. We were chatted at and quickly waved through. I'm sure they were looking for the odor of alcohol. First one of those I'd ever been through. Not too painful really, at least if you were not drinking. Oh, we found a few sunny's but not a mess of big ones or anything. Just worm fishing with slip bobbers. We were out today again. Fishing, wife skiing and me scuba. I had to flip over about 100 rocks to find a crawfish. He was pretty small and kind of a pumpkin green color. I was face to face with a nice 3lb or so smallie for a while. Kind of cool. Hope y'all have a great Memorial Day. And many thanks to all the Vet's out there! Hook, Line and Sinker has a Memorial Day sale going on for vets. 10% off anything, I think. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Stump bumper Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Most Memorial Day weekends and 4th of July they will have those somewhere on RT12, IMO they should have some on the water. I have seen people get out of thier boats at private docks barely able to walk. Now it is summer I will wait until they are off the water before I go out. I have not been checked for a license in a while either at Table Rock and Grand I hear boats are check quite often. Last time I was checked at Swepco the warden was glad I was obeying the law since he had used up an entire book of tickets that day.
jeb Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 They were stopping folks on the water, too. But most of that activity that I saw was in the PC area, too. I've never been checked for fishing license on Beaver, either. Seems the AGFC is more interested in other areas of the law. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
bferg Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 This is only my second summer in Arkansas and on Beaver Lake but I must say I am very surprised at the amount of law enforcement (or I should say lack of law enforcement) I see on the water. I have not even seen any type of law enforcement on the lake here much less been stopped- now, not a lot of history but we go to the lake a LOT in the summer. I have been on other lakes (much "wilder" lakes like LOZ) and you see law enforcement on the water almost daily. I am all for more tickets being written. Beer+Boats never ends well...and if people are fishing without a license then fine them all.
Mr. Ed Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I'm all for keeping drunks off the road and off the water but I think a lot of these checks and blitz's are just going to far. With a crappy economy the police have been out in force country wide on ticket writing brigades making up for their lacking budgets. We had one on the private lake I have a place on in KS last weekend. This one was nothing more the a dozen cops writing tickets and collecting fines for literally anything they could. It was ridiculous and ruined the weekend of many people who really weren't doing any harm. For the record... I didn't get a ticket.
