Predator1 Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Great day canoeing from Shelvon Rock to Hooten Town. Most are Smallies were 3-4lb fish caught on Black/Blue Jig with Black Blue Craw or Black/Blue Baby Brush Hog ....Chartreuse Baby Bombers caught 3 - 1LB GOOGLE EYES. And the Old Charteuse Spinner Bait with Chartreuse Bleeding Trailer caught the 5 LM Bass between 1 and 2lbs. All fish were caught in the break of a current where there was some shade by the over hanging tree limbs. When the CLOUDS came out, the action stopped. First time I have ever left my WHITE SPINNER BAITS AT HOME. Remember this on Cloudy Days....A WHITE SPINNER BAIT WILL CATCH FISH LIKE CRAZY ON THIS RIVER. Nice day with the family on the River.

Thanks for the report, I need to get on The James, I've been spending too much time out west.
RSBreth Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 That's one thing people forget - the James does have some nice Rock Bass in it. Those little cranks really work for them, too!
Daveinozark Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 how long does that float take approx? is it a good stretch where you don't have to walk the boat? i'm looking for a good fishing stretch to take the wife w/o difficulties
Predator1 Posted June 2, 2010 Author Posted June 2, 2010 how long does that float take approx? is it a good stretch where you don't have to walk the boat? i'm looking for a good fishing stretch to take the wife w/o difficulties From Delaware Town to Hooten Town is a 12 Mile Float. From Shelvon Rock to Hooten Town is a six mile float. If the river is moving real fast you can get from Delaware to Shelvon Rock or Shelvon Rock to Hooten in just lesss than 2hours if you are continuously paddling. IF you slow paddle it will take 3-3 1/2 hours. We put in at SHELVON ROCK Saturday with a group of FAMILY and took alot of breaks and fished. It took us 10:00am till 4pm...... Hope that helps.
