Members H.B. Posted June 2, 2010 Members Posted June 2, 2010 I waded around Point Royale last weekend and had a blast catching rainbows (drifting egg patterns, deep). But, since the water was running some, I was pretty limited to where I could fish. I was wondering if anyone has experience with kickboats (like a personal pontoon boat)? I've been toying with the idea for a while for other smallmouth/trout fishing (say 11 pt), and wondered if you all thought it could work on Taneycomo. Thanks the advice. (And I appologize if this a repeat topic, but I didn't it didn't turn up when I searched the archives.)
Brian K. Shaffer Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I used one for years during the day with the water running and at night with the water off. Mine is a JW Outfitters Renegade 8'6"ft long. Weighs only 40lbs because it is made from aircraft aluminum. Also has the best rowing design I have ever used on a pontoon - and I have tried like 6 different kinds. It really was a ton of fun both at Taney and the White and Norfork rivers. Makes it easy to cover a ton of water normally requiring lots of wading. I have a ton of photos from both day and night of fish caught.. having an easy to use anchor system really helps. Dave Scadden has some cool boats and decent prices, also think about buying used to save some money. Most of all, get used to the boat before trying moving water. It can be dangerous. It is also common for these to turn up at the Bass Pro catalog outlet store, new in the opened box. Just be extra careful to make sure all the pieces are there. Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
