The same pattern worked today for walleye, although not as many. My 12 year old son used a Beetle Spin and caught three and I used my jig and leech catching eight. Only three were legal and had a bonus catfish. It was a nice day on the water. Off to Canada this weekend. Kinda hate to leave this good fishing.

My son said those leeches work real well in CANADA. Be careful crosssing the boarder. And we wish you a safe trip back.

Geez, Jim, cry me a river. I'm jealous! Have fun in Canada, where are you going?

We go to Slim's Cabins up past Flin Flon. Heck of a drive but the fishing is great. And talk about quiet. You might see 6 boats on the entire river system which stretches about 40 miles with many off-shoots.

'Bout due for one of those trips. Haven't been up there since 9-11.

I feel like a defective dad as I didn't get any pictures of Jimmy and his fish. I didn't have a camera with me and we didn't get home until 10:45. His mom wasn't too pleased that he was out so late on a school night, even if it was the last one. Sometimes, forgiveness is easier to get than permission. We have found the eyes in 6-8' of water on two main lake points points near where the two arms come together. There is state park land near one of them. If you see someone fishing with a kid (who already caught his fish) swimming around the boat, that's me. Probably not the best for fishing, but he has a blast. It is quite a circus when both boys are along. Might as well pack up and hook up the inner tube.

Gilly, we're fishing the Quetico Wilderness Area which is the Canadian half of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. They don't allow live bait, so no leeches :( However, 4" lizards on weighted Keeper hooks catch both smallmouth and walleye. And, I'll bring my camera. I just hope my son and I won't send it for a swim by tipping the canoe. I've never been in a canoe with him and he's never been lake canoeing which is very different from the easy Boy Scount river trips around here.

I remember the days of fishing even before school started. Our first hour ART teacher in High School sent us home to take a shower cause we smelled like fish on two occasions.

[......... Boy Scout river trips around here.]

Literally? I was a Scout Master for years. Both of my boys are Eagles. Some of the best time spent with them. A lot of my own personal friends today are from those years.

Yes, literally. My 14 year old just quit because of sports and girls taking up his time and my 12 year old is still in. I'm an assistant scout master after being cub master for 5 years. My 14 year old is going to Canada with me, but my 12 year old is still not strong enough for this kind of trip. Looking at the difference in these two, I see why the Northern Teir Canoe Program has the minimum age at 14.

Now they'd probably get suspended. Times have changed.
