timsfly Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Not much changed from last week, water is still dropping each day, a little rain here and there but nothing that has effected the river. The water is still clear and in great shape, with the clear water it is time to start using lighter line, 2 or 3 lb is recommended, no blue, white or braided lines as these will put the fish off their feed when used in clear water. Great dry fly fishing the past few weeks, Caddis, Adams, Griffiths gnats, small lt. cahills Beetles, Ants, and Stimulators are all working very well, most flies I'm using are #14's and smaller. Pheasant tails, and sowbugs are still working best, zebra midges, copper johns, hares ears, burlaps and micro eggs are still working very well, most of these I'm fishing about 24"-36" under and indicator. Big woolybuggers are working well early in the morning, brown, black, and olive have been working the best. I use the smaller woolybuggers in the late morning and afternoons, same colors. Power bait is still working best in zone 1, the white eggs, and the brown eggs have been working the best, on the overcast days and sometimes early in the morning flo. yellow and flo. orange is pretty good. Roostertails are still working for the first 30 minutes or so, black, brown, olive and white have been effective colors. Micro jigs, grubs small thread jigs have really been working well, the white, olive, brown, tan and the black/yellow have been the best colors. Plastic worms have been good, cheese yellow, white, orange/white and orange peel have all been good this week. Small gold spoons are good right now, as are crankbaits and smaller mister twister type of plastic baits. In zone 3 night crawlers power bait white paste and the yellow paste are a good bet right now. Good luck on the river this week. Fly_Guy Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 We just took our annual trip w/ KC friends this past Sun-Wed. Fishing was good w/ flies. I went into zones 2 and 3, and did well with about everything I tried. In zone one, I fished w/ dries (of all variations) and did well, and then TORE EM UP on a size 12 brown scud fished about 3.5 ft under a float. Many of the fish caught this way were more 'trouty' (i.e. they had beautiful color, fought well and jumped often, and had full fins). Fishing right below the falls for each pool was key w/ the scud. I caught a really nice one this way wednesday (in the 2 lb range). The scud worked in zones 1,2, and 3.
