Members asap52 Posted June 20, 2010 Members Posted June 20, 2010 Thinking of going separate on the rod and reel. Concerning the reel, what weight, diameter and or brand should I be looking for? Anything you guys can tell me to look for or watch for will be appreciated. Corky
OKFlyFisher44 Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Just match the reel to your rod. If you buy a 5-weight rod, buy a 5-weight spec reel. SOOO many brands of reels out there now, its hard to go wrong. You can spend less than $50 and get a decent reel with an adjustable drag. You can spend under a $100 and get a nice reel with adjustable drag. Just shop around. Top brand reels these days are Ross, Lamson, Orvis, Abel, TFO, Sage, etc etc etc Don't over-think your shopping...its hard to go wrong these days.... Terry Beeson Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 As Chance said, reels are set up for a range of weights. Best to put them in your hands and check out the feel. Make sure it has a sealed drive to keep any dirt, sand, etc. out of it. Lamson Konic is a very good reel, but there are good Ross, Galvin, Okuma, Abel, etc. etc. etc. etc... Then again, Hendrix has a very nice machined reel for under $100.
