DaddyO Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I fished, Saturday, with my Dad, Brother and Nephew. I hit several spots that day. I started out right below the Dam and picked up 5 fish. I moved down river and fished the slack water above the kiddie pool and picked up 15 or more fish. We took a break for lunch and had a Jimbo's Cheeseburger. Headed to T&M and picked up another 10 fish before the turned the water on. There are fish all over this river and I am really enjoying the fishing, right now. I caught several nice fish in the 2lb range. I used to say that was a good fish for this river. However, I am seeing larger fish caught. I realize that we will not have any spawning fish in this river, but, as long as more people will practice good catch and release methods, we could wind up with a very good fishery. All of my fish were caught on the BobWhite, Hair and Copper or Rick Pike's River Crack. My Dad and Brother had a lot of success on Zebra Midges. I forgot to take my camera, so, I don't have any pics for you. Tight Lines. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
BFTMASTER Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I second the C & R, with plenty of smaller fish for the take,...(6) 1 lbs. to 1.5 lbs. is plenty of filets. And trout really don't taste that good after freezing. Pray for more rain through out the summer, so they will have enough water to run to keep things cool.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I wish the wildlife dept could come to an arrangement with the Corp for a minimum flow agreement instead of just shutting the water completely off. The river fishes so well when the water is dropping but once it bottoms out, its slows down so much. I seen trout stacked up near the banks under shade provided by trees the last few weeks and they could care less if you walked through them. They'd just scatter just enough to swim around you and get back under the shade. The fish were really stressed.... I know they are just stockers but with how much they stock this river...I bet our "fish-per-mile" statistic is out of this world on this river. We could have a decent trophy trout fishery with some different regulations and a minimum flow agreement. There is sections of this river that would provide some awesome trout water if there was just a little more flow... Its quite depressing sometimes... Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
DaddyO Posted June 22, 2010 Author Posted June 22, 2010 I hear your, brother, and totally agree with you. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
BFTMASTER Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Is there any organizations involved with such thins on the LIR? Trout Unlimited? Shouts for Trouts? Trouts R us? I have had a blast the last two years down there, the years before were drought years. Used to be that the only trout that were there were less than 10" .... I personally have released 3 fish this year over 4lbs. , somthing I thought would have never happened.
DaddyO Posted June 25, 2010 Author Posted June 25, 2010 I am not a member of any of those organizations, so, I don't know if they are involved in this kind of thing. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
