Members birdman Posted June 26, 2010 Members Posted June 26, 2010 I'm heading to LIR Monday afternoon, I've gotten good info from the forum but I haven't heard anything about tippet/leader size and lenght for trout. I would like to dry fly and soft hackle fish. Heading down with my son (12), little too hot for camping, any recommendations on a decent place to stay? Also on the soft hackle fishing is anybody using sink tip line or just using a split shot? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Birdman Tim

Thanks 9' leader. 5X-7X tippet based on the water clarity and conditions. I primarily fish SHs with no weight and use a floating line. Rarely I'll use a split shot. Cheers. PC
Members birdman Posted June 26, 2010 Author Members Posted June 26, 2010 Thanks for the info Paola, water clarity this time of year is probly close to gin clear? Birdman Tim
Zach Bearden Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 The water is indeed gin clear. Many fish were on top this morning. They're in Pods, if you find one rising there are probably another 20 around it. That soft hackle should be uber if swung in front of them. As for places to stay, there is Marval resort which is right there on the river. And Tenkiller state park which is up on the lake. Both have cabins and are an equal distance from the dam but if you don't want to drive to fish I'd go with Marval. Fishing's not too bad right there either. "Its clearly Bree time baby!" Members birdman Posted June 26, 2010 Author Members Posted June 26, 2010 Thanks for the help Zach, we'll be trying it Monday. Birdman Tim
Okieflyfisher53 Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 Be sure to keep an eye on the water level. They will be generating Monday afternoon and the water comes up pretty fast. Steve
Members birdman Posted June 27, 2010 Author Members Posted June 27, 2010 Do they sound a horn like at tanneycomo? Will they be generating through one turbine or more? How many do they have? Can it still be fished while they're generating? Is it worth trying to fish during generation? Sorry about all the questions but I don't know what to expect. Thanks Birdman Tim
DaddyO Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Tim, Go to this website and look at the generation schedule for the day you will be fishing: http://www.swpa.gov/generationschedules.aspx Unless you are up at the dam, you may not be able to hear it. Watch for rising water and always know where your exit point is going to be. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.

Members birdman Posted June 30, 2010 Author Members Posted June 30, 2010 Returned last evening from LIR and I just want confirm to everyone that the hunting/fishing community is without a doubt the most friendly, helpful group of people on the planet. Thanks to the people on this forum sharing info and to the people we met on the river our trip was outstanding. We caught alot of fish and we made some new friends too! Watching my son turn into a man and to see his passion for fly fishing grow as well is the icing on the cake, hard to explain. Thanks again S.T. Birdman Tim
