Fishing was slow today. However, I got a late start and didn't get on the river until about 9am. I introduced a young man to the addiction of fly fishing and enjoyed the day with him and my Dad. Here are a few pics...

We caught about a dozen each and used everything we had. It seemed like they didn't want to focus on any one pattern. The big fish of the day was caught on a soft hackle.

We fished the T&M Gravel Pit area.

The fish are pretty scatter-brained right now. I went down after work and caught a few. Two of them about 2-3lbs.

Caught bunches of shad. Thought that was pretty funny. Most of them are caught on Pheasant Tails. Starting to target them cause the trout are beginning to thin out. Doesn't seem to matter the size of tippet. Anyone else seeing this?

I've caught a few shad also. What do you mean when you say that the trout are starting to thin out? Is this due to striper consumption or human consumption? Or are they just schooling up where there is less fishing pressure?

To change the subject just a bit. Did you fish north of T&M gravel or south and how far from the parking lot? Any deep holes in that area??

Fished Monday and noticed there wasn't a pattern at all. I too tied on one (or two) of everything in my fly box. I'd find something that would catch a few then they wouldn't touch it and I'd start searching again. Caught most on small drys. Started out with 6x. Later in the day I was using 4x and catching just as many. Saw lots of trout. late evening topwater bite was really good.

I saw so many shad that I though about trying to catch some with my 2wt but was having to much fun with the bows.

Corky,

Deep is a relative term. We were up river from the parking lot. And there were a few holes that I would call over the waders deep. Depending on how far you want to walk, you can find all types of water up or down river from the parking lot.
