Worms

[Been to long]

I lived in kansas for a while when i was young and remember my father taking me out to muddy creek beds to dig for worms. I cant for the life of me figure out what type of worm they were, but they were very very active, as large as a nightcrawler (or bigger), and they seemed to be easy to keep. I also remember dad using small amounts of the soil as a type of chum near our boat...not sure why! Anyway, i was curious if anyone knew what type of worm they were and if there is a place anywhere near the Springfield Area (i would drive an hour to be able to dig a couple buckets full) that i could dig them. Just go to Carsons on hwy 160 at the james river bridge between nixa and springfield. Ask the guys in the store if you can get some worms from under their potted plants outside. I knew a guy who worked there a few years ago and we'ed do this all the time. find some moist soil where they have watered and look under big plants. you could get 20-30 big worms in less than half an hour.

When I lived in Springfield I would "dig" down by the stream that runs through Fassnight Park. I used the "" around dig because I used a garden hand trowel to just pick up the dirt/mud along the streambed remove the worms and put the dirt/grass back into place. I would do this EARLY in the mornings because I didn't want other people to destroy the beds/stream banks. I don't own this property, but we all do and I just ask that if anyone here does this that we be careful and try to leave things the way they were.
