Members Doug Weston Posted July 23, 2010 Members Posted July 23, 2010 I have a 997. I have figured out that it is silt coming off the bottom when there is current being pulled. It don't always do it and if its what I think it looks like, I'm pretty sure its silt. I have been playing around with mine for over a year now. I have tried to correlate it to when they are generating or not. Although I can't tell for sure, It seems to be the most reasonable explanation. If you will notice the terrain and features where you see this, it will make sense. Hope this helps... JDC Baits
Members danny Lawrence Posted July 25, 2010 Author Members Posted July 25, 2010 Doug that could be it it. Both times I seen it Iwas close to the old river channels. I believe I found the old bridge that connected h highway by baxter. I've been looking for some of the stuff my dad told me about that got cover by the lake.
Members Doug Weston Posted July 26, 2010 Members Posted July 26, 2010 Danny, I am/ have done, the same thing around big M. My grandpa lived there before it was flooded. In fact they sold their land to the corps so they could flood it. He was a boy but I have found lots of interesting things there, including an old bridge or two. Oh, I have kept it to myself about the silt because I figured it was a good way to tell if current is being pulled, so don't tell anyone... Seriously, I have wondered why no one else seemed to wonder what it was, but I wasn't going to bring it up. JDC Baits
Members danny Lawrence Posted July 28, 2010 Author Members Posted July 28, 2010 Doug my dad was raised on big indian his family was spilt by the lake when it came in. I found some foundations that him and uncles told me about. I wish I would of paid more attention to their storys when I was a kid who knows what I might find.
Fishing Buddy Don House Posted July 29, 2010 Fishing Buddy Posted July 29, 2010 I've got a hb 798 si unit on my boat I think I've learned to read it pretty good but I've had this happen to me a couple times in different places it looks like a column of smoke rising off the bottom just a light cloudy looking colum. any ideas. Danny, could be a few things.. Spring Maybe.. Large Clouds of Great Big Shad maybe... Next time you get this, pause your screen or mark it with your GPS.. This will stop your screen.. Now move your bullseye over to it and hit the zoom button, zoom in and take a look, see if that helps. Next also at the same time start to play with your Sensitivity, see if it changes in any way.. Really need to see a screen dump so next time snap a picture of it so we can see it.. Just remember on Table Rock lower Sensitivity works much better from 2 - 5 max.. Also slow your screen speed down to 1 or 2 that will give you a much more defined picture.. Prop wash will show up right down the center line, and you won't see it very good in the DI mode.. Not much help but a few things to try.. Get that picture and post it would love to see this.. Good Fishing Don Capt.
