Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Water temp 83 3 foot high normal Bass are biting fair on plastic worms and jigs in 15-20 foot of water. Texas rig the worm and you have to work it really slow. Also there is a top water bite early and late as the fish come up and feed on the massive amounts of shad that are in the lake. To catch the walleye you can either troll crankbaits on main lake flats or float with a 1/8 oz lead head and 1/2 of a nightcrawler. Work in the area of 20-22 foot of water and let the wind drift you over the area or you can use your trolling motor. Seems to be a pretty light bite right now so be ready to set the hook on anything. Crappie are biting excellent in 20 foot brush piles lakewide. Use 1/16 oz jigs or a minnow. In the early mornings and late evenings you can fish just above the brush and catch lots of fish, but once that hot sun comes up you need to get the jig into the brush pile and slowly jig it to get a bite. You really need to concentrate on the difference between the brush and the fish. Several of the fish are just hanging on or hitting on the fall, so you need to watch, and feel for bites. Lots of keepers are coming off the brush, so find that one honey hole and you can feed the family or just have lots of fun. Catfish are excellent on fresh shad drifted across flats in 15 foot of water. Use a crappie hook, split shots and let the bait drift across the bottom. Great time for the kids to catch some fish or to take the grandparents etc. Good luck and keep your hooks sharp!!
