Members Zac Seale Posted July 30, 2010 Members Posted July 30, 2010 Going to night fish Crappie tonignt probably in Maze Creek. Has anyone had any luck lately? How deep? Any suggestions would be great! I usually sit in timber around 20-30 ft and have pretty good luck, but some friends have said the bite has been kind of off this year. Thanks!
Thunderin Gobbler Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Zac, I haven't had any luck yet this year on crappie, but I have been hearing the same thing about the depth. 20-25ft is supposedly where they are. I am putting in at Cedar Ridge tonight and considered heading up into Maze Creek, but not sure. I'll be in a maroon Nitro. Feel free to say hi, or run us off, whatever. Hopefully we can both find some crappie tonight.
Members Zac Seale Posted July 30, 2010 Author Members Posted July 30, 2010 Gobbler, Sounds good, i'll be in a small aluminum v'hull with my wife. We usually have pretty good luck in Maze Creek when Crappie fishing, but we haven't been at all this year. Usually we tie up at around 25' of water and you can move in or out as needed for depth. We usually get close to 2 limits but i hear its been rough this year so we'll see. Hopefully we'll cya there.
Members hogbob Posted July 30, 2010 Members Posted July 30, 2010 Boys, I just talked to a guy I know who fished Turkey creek two nights in the last week. He's one of those lucky ones that always seems to find and catch fish. Said he caught them on timber 18 feet deep, 1 crank off the bottom. Go get em
Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 ive been fishing early and late for the crappie, but none at night. shouldn't matter, they are in 20 foot brush piles 1 to 2 cranks off the bottom. hit the right pile, and you will get a limit pretty fast. Members Zac Seale Posted July 31, 2010 Author Members Posted July 31, 2010 We got to Maze Creek at around 8:30 and fished until a little after 11:00. Tied off in 21ft of water and set them a little off the bottom. Caught a few short crappie and 2 keepers. We were starting to get a lot of bites but my battery was dying and we got into a huge school of White Bass at 11:00. They usually school with Crappie and make it hard to catch crappie, so we headed home. At least i know i can get in there and catch some, just need to avoid all the white bass...and remember to charge my battery. Thanks for the tips guys, and Gobbler hope you had some luck last night as well.
Thunderin Gobbler Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Well I didn't end up coming that way like I'd said Zac. With the wind that picked up, my brother in law decided to go to CC instead where it was calmer. We got up there about 6:00pm and fished until about 11:00. We thought we'd start out doing some bass fishing and them go after the crappie. I think we ended up with 3 bass (1 keeper) and 3 short crappie. Our mistake was deciding to start crappie fishing while the bass were still biting. The one keeper was a good one though. I caught a 6lb largemouth on a 10" plastic worm at the end of one of the bluffs. Made the trip worthwhile.
Gilly Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Real nice. We went out Saturday early until noon. The wives were cooking in the sun so back on the trailer. No keepers. www.drydock516.com
