Now I hope that Im not the only person on here who is adicted to fly fishing for carp. I started last year after reading about it. My first day out I found mudding carp in three feet of water in a missouri river oxbow and hooked one on my first cast. They are everything you read about. When you set the hook, they take off to deep water so fast and strong that you really wont beleive that there is any way to stop it.

What I would like to hear is anywhere you have found consistant action. Where I live in St Joe, the water is all so muddy that you really cant go out carp fishing. I go bass fishing and when I find mudding or tailing fish I pick up my carp rod and give it a shot. Back home on elk river the water is clear and shallow with carp everywhere. I know it would be hard to ignore the small mouth long enough to chase carp, but if you hook one you will understand. I have read that you can use a 4 wt for them but unless you have one that you want to break, I wouldnt. Besides you WILL want a fighting butt after twenty minutes. Oh, and a net. The best way to make a carp take all your line again is to touch him.

I think I'm going to the Little Blue tomorrow in search for carp. But again, it's hit and miss. I know that Longview has a ton of Carp. They're big too. I hooked into one a couple of years ago that was an easy 18-20. No kidding, it ruined my medium weight reel.

Wolf and I have been on the water all weekend with little to no success to speak of really but we have been trying some new waters we were not used to so we rack it up to the learning curve I guess.

Now as to the flies we normally use here are a few of the general assortment of stuff...... and this is general, we use all different sizes weights, colors, pretty much anything we think might work at the moment. We'll tray almost anything once but usually twice or three times.

I know this is my go to fly for carp and I actually tie it from an #8 up to a #2 in pretty much any color you can imagine (not just for carp)

This one has proven to be rather useful to me from time to time as well.

And this one works well too, just tie it in more muted colors like craw colors or olives and the like, even have it in yellow, or orange.

Pretty much anything that you can get down to the bottom to them or right in front of their face will work as long as it resembles food and does not scare them. General nymph and crustacean patterns tend to be the most productive for us though.

Try to stick with browns or greens in the size 10-14 range. Something with a little weight to it is nice depending on water clearity. Carp are supper spooky in clear water. Here's a few from last year.

I would love to get into some Carp around the KC area. I have scouted Longview and see quite a few, but they are hard to get to with the baitcasting folks crowding the shore for dinner.

Yeah, you will need some room. once you hook up he will tangle you with every other line in the water. They pull very hard! The cork in the handle of my 6w is cracked from the rod flexing in the handle. Are you on the Missouri side?

My buddies and I fished for them regularly when we were younger at the spillway in Riverton, KS. It was automatic. Every time we went, you could count on catching 5-10 of them.

We would either use moss, balled up on a small treble under a bobbler, or we would use flies tied up to look like a ball of moss.

They are a lot of fun. They definitley make my short list for awesome fish to catch.

Wow, carp in current like that would be awsome. I would have to call it a day after three of them. My arms feel like their gonna fall off after a couple of lake fish even with a boat to chase them.
