Stump bumper Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I am not sure what guide was launching out of Holiday Island this morning, it was a deep V with a couple of down riggers on the back. I was fishing from HI to Big M and back and never saw the boat until we got back to HI, but he was cleaning a good limit of Walleyes with the largest being 10lbs. He said it was the biggest he had caught this year. I hope someone else got more details than I did.
rps Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 his on line and corporate name is fish of excellence. Nice guy. I will get more details about method when I see him next, if he doesn't post them himself.
Martin Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 When I came in from walleye fishing out of Holiday Island last spring, he was there and had a couple of keepers. That particular day he had been trolling crankbaits. Yes, he was a good guy, friendly, and obviously knowledgeable.
powerdive Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Yup, I met FoE that day too, after Marty and I "eliminated some water." A striper guy first (hence the D/Rs), walleye second, but knew his stuff and didn't mind sharing info. Enjoyed the chat.
Members fishofexcellence Posted August 5, 2010 Members Posted August 5, 2010 Was rough today, didn't get 1 eye, caught a nice LM,couple nice whites & gills. Got a 12#, 32 inch in March. Monday was a a 10# & 5#, with a couple whites & big gills. Were trolling walleye runners, what ever will get you down to at least 17- 22 ft now. not a lot of water here over 30ft. I can fish Mo side but cant take people, some guys doing good their up around Eagle Rock & Roaring River fishing deeper. Most fish here are between Holiday Island to Houseman. When were not trolling were running bottom bouncers with night crawlers & creek slicks. If somethings out the back on a float its a big 4-5 inch chup on a big jig or just hook. I put out a couple traps in a good creek to get the small ones, while I fish for about a hr with a small hook & slip float set about 12- 18 inches. Lately been so busy its been about my only time to fish on my own. Still fun catching on light tackle fight harder than bluegil. Speaking of which if you see us tied up we gave up & are trying to get dinner with gills or crappie. Whites are still around, but havnt seen on top for a couple of weeks. Keep a rod to throw a rooster tail when they do deside to come up. Jigging spoons are working in Mo. Should work here too if you mark them stacked up. A lot of fish Go to Mo in the heat, but the ones that stay seem to turn on when & after generating. If you fish these waters need to slow down for the kiacks, canoes,& flat bottoms, usally only 3-4 in a 5 mile stretch. Well hope I was of some help, good luck fishing, if water gets any hotter might do best fishing between the hrs of 9pm & 6am, seems to be working best on Beaver.
Members fishofexcellence Posted August 5, 2010 Members Posted August 5, 2010 Also putting crawlers on front bouncers. floating jig heads, or spin harness. Got our 2 bigest eyes in April 8-10#,jigging a 2oz chartruse striper bucktail. Got first just wanting to show son how you can see on graph, just graped something big, third pull up he hit. next trip out told guy & he jiged most the time when not reeling in a bouncer, only got one this way, but was the biggest fish of the day.
Martin Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Nice report Robert !! We don't hear alot about what's going on way up there. Thank you ! mF
Members walleyerich Posted August 5, 2010 Members Posted August 5, 2010 I need somebody to take me walleye fishing on the Rock. Anybody? Anybody?
Members tunie Posted August 5, 2010 Members Posted August 5, 2010 Yeah, that 10 pound Eye came from Robert Johnson's guide service. I first met Robert as a guide for myself and 3 Louisiana buddies on a Striper trip, the big one that day went 15 pounds, and we finished off that day with an evening trip for White Bass...Now these boys are serious fishermen as we all grew up fishing the OIL spilled area of Louisiana for Specks and Red Fish, and we all agreed that the day spent fishing with Robert was one great fishing event, that in itself is a great recomendation... Since that first trip Robert and I have became friends and have had several great fishing trips maxing out on Stripers to rainbows and bass, even got the wife out once with us and she really enjoyed the outing and yes, she caught some good bragging fish too... This is my first post and forgive if there are formats that i am not doing right, I mostly fly-fish out of my Kayak in the H I Marina area early morning or late evenings during the week, honey does on the weekend, if anyone sees me out there shout Hey and we will stretch some fish tails together... Oh, by the way, that 10 pound WallEye was caught by a young boy, think about it, He has a Fish Story for Life Now... robert breaux
