I posted earlier in the year about needing some new setups, but had to delay the purchase. I am however hoping to purchase a new 5 weight before an extended weekend trip in September. I am also going on a short trip this weekend and came across this. It seems to good to pass up. Anyone tried one out? I am leaning toward the 4 piece.

I have 3 St. croix rods, all Avid series, a 5wt, 7wt, and 9wt.

I'd snatch that up for that price. I like my St. Croix rods. Once had a factory rep at a fly shop try selling me a Sage bass rod. I told him; "I'll stick to my St. Croix. I don't fish tournaments so I don't need a shorter rod thank you."

That Legend Ultra is like a step up from the Avid series. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

I have 3 Legend Ultras 2 5wts 9' 8'6" and a 4wt 9' (I found this one in the Bargain Cave at the Phoenix Cabela's for $190 - can't pass up a deal like that), I like them. I also had a 5wt Avid -but I gave that one to my son, to upgrade his equipment - plus it was beginning to look like an episode of "Hoarders" in the closet. I also have 5wt Sage and a March Brown travel rod, I use occasionally, I'll grab the St Croix 1st. Plus I like my TFO 3wt. Best advice find what feels good, casts nice, and if you can get it for a discount then so much the better. So far my St Croix's have never let me down.

I have 2 St Croix rods, a 5wt and 4wt both are Legend Elite's. That 5wt is my go to rod for taming big Browns. Nothing wrong with the 4 pc. You always want to cast the rod before purchase if possible.

It turned out to be a winner. It will ship to my front door on Thursday in time to fish it Saturday. Plus I got an additional $20 off by ordering online which covered the shipping. They had some kind of sale that is good until midnight tonight. Seems like a real steal. There are only 6 left in the 9 foot, 5 weight, 4 piece if anyone is interested.

Thanks for all the info...can't wait to get on the water with it!

I had been eyeing the Avid in a 5 weight before I saw this deal. I like the way the Avid's look and feel. Might have to pick me up one in lower weight for Bluegill.

Good luck with your new rod, hope you stick a big one with it!
