Trout Commander Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Hitting Crane again tomorrow after work. I got some bonus/commission money and picked up a few flies I didn't have before and am now equipped for nymphing, dry flies, hoppers n' droppers, and stripping buggers. The question now is where should I start out? One of the wire road accesses? City park? Quail spur bridge? Other place(s)? Has anyone had more success in any one place more than the others lately? I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
troutbum479 Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 have you seen any snakes? arkmoflyfishing.blogspot.com http://okietroutbum.blogspot.com/
Trout Commander Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 no signs of snakes at upper (I think) Wire Road access or in the city park. I think the big spiders I saw at the Wire Road access must've eaten all the snakes. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. Buzz Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Well JDC, how did you do???? If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Trout Commander Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 I did well! I made it past the spiders before they really spotted me. I think they are probably nocturnal and were still sleeping. I fished for an hour, hooked 4 and failed to bring any to hand. Still trying to get this little creek figured out. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. Members MarkinKC Posted August 24, 2010 Members Posted August 24, 2010 I finally caught some Crane Creek trout on my 3rd trip to the stream. And it is a long drive from KC to get skunked. Don't get discouraged.
Gallagher Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I was there yesterday trying to figure out just where to go, I referenced a map I had and 1st went to the MDC area on the left just past the bridge outside of town to the south, looked like it was worth trying, but I didn't (I purposely left my waders @ home), after that I tried to locate another MDC area just down that same road maybe 150 yds, that was listed on my GPS but was apparently in a field across the road from a house (with small dogs)& access didn't look too great. So I thought I'd give the city park a look, first upstream, about the only fish I saw were about 10" ers & under, pretty much where main street run into the park, then I continued downstream which didn't look too promising for not having waders. My overall opinion at the time was it's worth another try but maybe after we get a little rain as the water level seemed a bit low except for the pools here & there. If anyone has any input as far as just where to go on this cool little creek, I'd greatly appreciate any tips & advise before I venture down there again and just try to "wing it" Thanks! Carry out what you carry in...
troutbum479 Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 the whole creek fishes good if the water is higher and off color. you can still catch fish if you know where they are. be stealthy and fish upstream or walk down and fish up.they will spook easy this time of the year. arkmoflyfishing.blogspot.com http://okietroutbum.blogspot.com/
