OKFlyFisher44 Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 My crew and I are making our 2nd trip to the Current for the year, this coming weekend. I was just curious if anyone has fished it lately. How low is the river from just below Baptist to back upstream to Tan Vat. The gauge is reading 90 cfs. Are the fish super spooky right now? Anyone having any luck on hoppers, beetles or ants? Also, the extended forecast is showing a good chance of t-storms for the weekends. At the current level, if the rain comes hard and fast...will it blow out and be muddy ?? I've fished it at 185 cfs before but it was still very clear. My only thought is if the rain comes hard and fast...it'll come up so fast that it will just turn off color. What do you locals think? Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...

I'd guess hoppers would be on, but that's just a guess and nothing more. I am going to get down there next weekend to see for myself. At 90 CFS, they'll be spooky, but you still should be able to catch them if you're a little bit careful. That's just the normal flow for this time of year. I wouldn't be too worried about it blowing out this time of year unless we really get pounded hard... The Current doesn't muddy easily even during wet seasons, and in early fall, it really takes something pretty major to make it unfishable. The only thing I've ever seen blow out the river for any amount of time in early fall/ late summer is the rain that comes from Gulf coast hurricanes every once in a while.
Outside Bend Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Tricos ought to be going pretty strong, but terrestrials should still catch a pile of fish. Drop a zebra midge or something similar (small) underneath your dry for the shy ones... Like OTF says, unless there's a big storm, or a few days of wet weather, you ought to be fine for fishing. The Current's a fairly narrow valley, and unless storms hit it directly, you aren't likely to find dirty water. Good luck! <{{{><
Nortrad Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Chance, the river will fish better if it rises and get slightly off color, in my humble opinion. You guys should do well. Watch for beavers, muskrats and minks in the upper TV, they watched me fish. The flat tails were skittish, but the minks were curious. Once again, good luck, and have fun at camp when the fishing's done
