thanks for all the concerns. i've spent plenty of time in my yak, canone, bass boat, etc...... so i am well aware of the perils of floating a tail water stream. now back to my original questions, mileage from dam to landing?

No exact mile markers on Taney, but it would be about 10 to 12 miles if the map scale is correct. Just for grins I'll check it with my GPS on the Gator next time I can run up to the dam.

I put my Kayak in at the dam, fished and floated down to the landing area. I have kayaked it a few times ranging from no generation, to 4 units ruuning with no problems as long as you are paying attention to whats going on. I fly fish from my yak and have no troubles fishing and floating. You can even paddle back upstream with 2 units running as long as you tuck in close to the bank and prepare to work your butt off.
