NoLuck Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Well I made the trip to Bennett for a three day romp. I arrived Friday and put up the camper and went to get my tag and realized that I was a little absent minded and left my vest and net at home with all my flys and tools and tippett and all the other goodies needed to fish. So I then made a trip up to see Charlie and pick up the stuff needed to fish and be somewhat organized. After getting all my junk situated I finally hit the stream about 3pm I think. Fished zone 2 and pretty much had the fish figured out in about 30 mins of fishing. The only problem was that I only had one midge that was sitting in the little tray of my cup holder in my truck. That just happened to be THE midge to be fishing. So I used 6x tippet and made sure I retied after about every 12 fish or so to keep from breaking off the only midge I had that was catching fish. I fished Zone2 till around 6pm I think and then headed up to Zone 1 above the dam and continued my success. I caught a ton of fish but all of them were pretty small with a few being normal sized to maybe even a decent sized one occasionally. The people that stock these fish really need to figure out what it takes to increase the sizes of the fish. I have never seen so many people keeping dinks in all my days at Bennett. If I was to have kept any fish I could have been picky enough to keep some decent fish but it would have taken me all day to do so. Saturday and Sunday I slept in both days till around 8am or so and hit the stream around 9 or 10 and continued my success with the same midge pattern after I tied up a half dozen or so Friday night. I fished Zone 1 up by the spring Sunday morning and pretty much hammered them till about 1pm and headed back to break camp and get some vittles. I didn't see too many people catching fish Sunday pretty much all day except for a few people above the dam fishing off of the dam. Everywhere I went I caught fish on the same midge as I started using friday afternoon. I finished up the day in Zone2 till I broke off and seen it was 5pm and I headed out. Hopefully I get a couple more chances to fish before the season is over and winter season kicks in. But, bowseason is here and I hauled the camper home to gear up for that. See ya guys on the stream, Rich
stlfisher Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Sounds like a great trip. I need to get to Bennett soon....only been there once this year.
rcguy Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 You a fish catchin' dude!!!! And the secret midge color was??????
NoLuck Posted September 27, 2010 Author Posted September 27, 2010 I used the same midge I used most of the time when we were down last month Jerry.
Trout Commander Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Glad to hear you stuck it to 'em again! I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
NoLuck Posted September 27, 2010 Author Posted September 27, 2010 Glad to hear you stuck it to 'em again! Yeah Jason, One of these days if I keep at it I may end up being a decent fisherman. All I gotta do is remember everything needed to fish. Maybe I should rent a storage spot in Lebanon that way I could keep an extra of everything I need there so I don't forget something again.LOL I should just start leaving everything in my camper that way I know where it would be. But, you can't put wet waders and boots in the camper to store it. Just imagine the smell!!
rcguy Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 I used the same midge I used most of the time when we were down last month Jerry. Gotcha!
NoLuck Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 Gotcha! I would tell all of you guys but, I was told by "Certain Individuals", that they would injure my extremities if I did.LOL
NoLuck Posted October 1, 2010 Author Posted October 1, 2010 Rich, How's the new 4 wt working out? The 4wt is pretty awesome. But it is not the same as the 3wt though.
