Hey guys I am heading down to Montuak on Sunday and just realized that the last major fish slaughter is going on this weekend I was just wondering how the fishing will be once the croweds leave, or should I focus more on fishing outside the park.

I imagine it will be crowded in both areas, but thinning out by Sunday afternoon. I was down for 3 day last weekend and fished both inside and outside the park. There was plenty of fish in both places. In fact there was a ton of fish in the fly fishing area...I would imagine they will stock even more this upcoming weekend. I didn't fish the bait area but my buddies reported is was pretty much cleaned out. I actually caught a lot of fish out of the lake if you want a little diversion. It is a little tricky casting, but walk out on jetty and hug the left side. Cast way back into the little cove and watch out for the tree branches on your right.

Thanks for the info STL my other question is how is the night fishing outside the park, after my recent trip down to taney and doing some night fishing I was wondering if the Current would produce at night

I have not tried the Current at night, so I will let others comment on that, but I bet it would produce. I am to chicken to wade around in the dark by myself.

The park will most definitely be crowded this weekend and even outside the park will receive a little more pressure than usual but it should be alright. Ill be leaving tomorrow night and heading down there for the weekend, it should be a great time.

Ive fished outside the park at night and the area around baptist isnt bad, although I havent done it too much I think you cant go wrong with a dark bugger. Ive caught quite a few fish that way around tanvat.

Good Luck!

I highly recommend night fishing outside the park. I would advise anyone thinking of this to scout the area you want to fish thoroughly beforehand during the daylight hours. The river, as with most other places, can look completely different in the night. Nothing ruins a night fishing trip quicker than stepping off into a hole and possibly dropping your rod or worse! A little careful planning can produce a memorable after dark adventure.

As far as flies, I too prefer large woolies and streamers, something that will displace lots of water and make some noise. This is usualy the time when the larger browns come cruising looking for a meal. Also, be mindful of your backcast area, nothing worse than getting your favorite fly hung in a tree in the dead of night. This is another good reason to scout your fishing area and make mental notes during the daylight.

The Current River is fishing really well with Hare's Ear Nymphs, hoppers, and ants according to my experience and the others I've talked to below the park. There seems to be a higher than usual number of browns in the river right now, although maybe a few less rainbows. But that's just my experience.I don't know anything about inside the park-I haven't fished there since June. I'm sure there will be plenty of fish, but why bother with the crowds when you have 15 miles of relatively uncrowded trout water downstream from there?
